About the Program
Special Education: Early Childhood Emphasis - This program is appropriate if you are interested in teaching very young children with disabilities, generally ages three through six. Classes are designed to provide students with psycho educational foundations. To earn this degree, you must take either the 36-hour plan extended coursework or the 32-hour thesis plan. Candidates in this MEd program of study are required to demonstrate content knowledge, pedagogical knowledge and skills, and professional knowledge to be eligible to enter student teaching or internship placements. Special Education: Continuing Professional Emphasis (noncertified)- This plan is appropriate if you are interested in special education. This program allows the student to pursue additional coursework in an academic area while strengthening your understanding of educational concepts. Please note that although certain courses in this plan may apply toward certification, completing this M.Ed. does not lead to certification nor does it provide an institutional recommendation for teacher certification.
