Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies (BAiLS)

Studying the liberal arts - the fine arts, humanities, social and natural sciences - is a great preparation for a career and for life. The liberal arts teach you to question and analyze, to communicate your thoughts effectively, to imagine, and to solve problems. Most important, the studying of liberal arts launches you on a path of lifetime learning.

At NAU-Yuma the BAiLS degree is flexible, allowing students to pursue a curriculum based on an emphasis and focus area that are in line with personal and career goals. The eleven emphases available at NAU-Yuma are:

Bachelor of Arts in Psychology

NAU’s bachelor’s degree in psychology offers a well-rounded education appropriate for a variety of career paths. Graduates of our program are well-suited for careers in human services, social service work, business or marketing, public administration, law enforcement, or other professions where an understanding of human behavior is important. The program emphasizes the analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills desired by today’s employers. The psychology degree is also available as a Bachelor of Science.


Bachelor of Arts in Spanish

In today's changing cultural environment, additional language acquisition is a valued skill in the workplace. The Spanish program at NAU-Yuma offers students the opportunity to develop oral and written linguistic skills and to gain greater exposure to the language and literature of the Spanish culture. The B.A. in Spanish is designed to meet the needs of students already fluent in Spanish. Minors in Spanish are also available.


Bachelor of Applied Science in Computer Technology

Our Bachelor of Applied Science in Computer Technology is a cutting-edge degree program focusing on microcomputer business systems, computer programming, networking, and systems design and analysis. The degree is specifically designed to transition students with an Associate of Applied Science from AWC or another approved Arizona community college. With this degree you will broaden your career horizons and graduate with a strong and broad computer science background.


Bachelor of Applied Science in Early Childhood Education

The B.A.S. in Early Childhood Education specialization is offered for students who have earned any Associate degree from a community college. This program provides the education and skills to comply with the No Child Left Behind Act, which requires all pre-school teachers to have bachelors’ degrees by 2006. The B.A.S. is based on state and national education reforms and the expanding specialized knowledge base concerning early childhood, creating educational opportunities throughout the state. This degree does not result in state certification.


Bachelor of Applied Science in Health Sciences

The B.A.S. in Health Sciences degree program is designed for students who possess an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree (allied health professionals with degrees other than the AAS degree may apply for an exception) and who want to earn a bachelors degree via distance learning while continuing to work. The program enhances theoretical and clinical knowledge and promotes career advancement in management, education, public health, sales, marketing, and research.


Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice

The criminal justice program at NAU-Yuma meets the needs of one of the most rapidly growing academic and professional fields in the United States. It is designed to develop students' understanding of the conceptual foundations of crime and the criminal justice system. The program increases students' awareness of the criminal process, the courts, and federal/state agencies. Students can prepare for careers in law enforcement, corrections, and related fields, as well as the pursuit of law school or other graduate studies. Internships are available.


Bachelor of Science Education in Elementary Education

The mission of the College of Education at Northern Arizona University is to prepare education professionals to create the schools of tomorrow. Along with learning what to teach and how to teach you have opportunities to experience increasingly complex assignments in classrooms with master teachers. This is a 2+2 program whereby students complete the first 2 years of general education coursework, as well as pre-requisites for admission to the program, at a community college. Fieldwork and practicum experiences are integral parts of your professional teaching preparation. This program leads to teacher certification in the state of Arizona. In addition to completing this program, you will be required to complete specific documentation and take the appropriate Teacher Certification examination(s)


Bachelor of Science Education in Secondary Education

Students pursuing a degree in secondary education select either majors and minors or extended majors in various academic areas. Students are able to complete teaching majors in Earth Sciences, English, and Spanish on the Yuma campus. Along with learning how to teach, all education students experience increasingly complex assignments in classrooms with master teachers. Fieldwork and practicum experiences are an integral part of the professional preparation of teachers.


Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science

This program stresses students' ability to identify and substantively analyze major environmental problems. NAU-Yuma offers the biology emphasis within the framework of the environmental science program. Students gain a mastery of the interdisciplinary perspectives of environmental sciences that are built on a strong foundation of biology, chemistry, and physics.


Bachelor of Science in Business Administration

The BSBA will work for you if you are interested in pursuing a career in business, government, or with a non-profit organization, if you wish to pursue further education in graduate school, and if you are looking for career advancement and promotion in your current profession. This program combines a liberal studies base with an in-depth study of communication, ethics and international relations. Case studies, computer simulations and field projects involving business firms enhance classroom instruction and provide practical experience. There are also several international internship opportunities available during the spring semester of each year.


Bachelor of Science in Nursing (Online)

The NAU Department of Nursing offers an on-line RN to BSN program that prepares students for professional, independent, leadership roles in health care, while allowing them to complete the program from their computer in the privacy of their own home. NAU believes and teaches that nursing is about health and illness, not just of individuals but also of families and communities. Our emphasis is in rural nursing and its challenges. Our program track is accredited by the Arizona State Board of Nursing and by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education. The program track available here in Yuma is the Registered Nurse to Bachelor of Science in Nursing. The R.N.-to-B.S.N. is an on-line program and enables registered nurses to make the transition to the broader scope of practice available to baccalaureate graduates.


Bachelor of Social Work (BSW)

The mission of NAU's social work program is to prepare you for beginning generalist social work practice in a range of social service areas and with multi-level client systems. The discipline also prepares you to participate responsibly in your community and to promote social and economic justice. The program provides you with a curriculum that is reflective of and sensitive to rural populations and the diverse cultures of our region, and incorporates informational and computer technology. The B.S.W. aims to furnish you with an undergraduate base for pursuing graduate social work education. NAU's social work program is accredited by the Council on Social Work Education.
