Master of Administration
The Master of Administration is a specialized 36 credit hour master's degree for mid-career professionals needing a general background in Administration plus a custom emphasis to meet your particular career goals. The Master of Administration program will help you develop your understanding of business foundations through courses in marketing, management, finance, quantitative analysis, management information systems and law. Then you choose a specialized 15-hour emphasis from the following areas: Educational Leadership, Professional Writing, Project Management, Public Management, Health Promotion, or a custom emphasis option.
Master of Arts in Applied Communication
The Master of Arts in Applied Communication is an on-line program designed to provide students with advanced skills in the analysis of communication, problem-solving, critical thinking, research, writing, and oral communication. The program is appropriate for students and/or working professionals who hold a bachelor’s degree and desire a professionally-related master’s degree that centers upon integrating knowledge in the field of communication with emphasis on organizations, technology, diversity, and/or environmental issues. The program is designed to enhance students’ existing knowledge level and expertise and does not require undergraduate coursework in communication.
Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) Mathematics
Northern Arizona University 's Department of Mathematics and Statistics is proud to announce a redesigned M.A.T. Program in Mathematics. Responding to national research and policy recommendations for mathematics teacher professional development, the new M.A.T. courses emphasize the connections between middle school, high school, and college level mathematics content, effective pedagogy, and reflective practice. The program of study leading to a Master of Arts in Teaching of Mathematics requires the successful completion of 36 hours of course work and is designed for students who have completed an undergraduate degree in math education.
Master of Education in Bilingual/Multicultural Education
For this degree, you must take at least 36 credit hours, including a 15-hour block of required courses, 9 hours of foundation courses, and 12 hours of electives that you choose with your advisor’s approval. Two emphases are offered: bilingual and the multicultural. The Bilingual Emphasis program requires you to have intermediate language proficiency in a second language. If you wish to meet the Arizona Bilingual Endorsement requirements, you may, through careful planning with your advisor, earn this endorsement within your master's degree program. The ESL Emphasis program is aimed at students interested in learning about different cultures but who are not necessarily in a career related to the education of bilingual or limited-English-proficiency (LEP) students. You do not need to demonstrate language proficiency in a second language. However, if you decide to earn either the bilingual endorsement or the ESL endorsement, you will need to fulfill the language proficiency and teacher certification requirements of these endorsements.
Master of Education in Counseling: Human Relations Emphasis
The Human Relations Emphasis is a 36-hour theoretical, non-practitioner program designed for individuals in the business world, the military, and education, who want preparation in the facilitation of learning and/or an understanding of human behavior, the learning process, and interpersonal communication skills. Courses include the study of human development, personality theory and motivation, learning theory, vocational counseling, and the principles of behavioral change. The counseling program offers skills that could be applied to many areas of professional careers and clientele. The faculty are experienced working professionals and the class selection is accommodating and flexible. Note: The completion of this program does not lead to certification or endorsement as a professional counselor.
Master of Education in Educational Leadership
The M.Ed. in Educational Leadership is a 36-hour program with specializations in school leadership, foundations and community college/higher education leadership. Although designed and intended primarily for professionals working in educational settings, this degree may also be appropriate for individuals looking to assume leadership positions in other professions.
Master of Education in Elementary Education
Discover the value of inquiry, reflection, application, and evaluation of your practice through interaction with outstanding full and part-time teachers and mentors in this M.Ed. in Elementary Education. Through courses in curriculum design and development and teaching methods, you will learn to apply practical strategies in your classroom that work to reach all of your students. Within this 36 hour program, you will take 9 credit hours of education foundations, 18 – 21 hours of elementary education courses, and 6 – 9 hours of cognate courses. You can embed a reading endorsement or ESL endorsement in this degree program. This degree requires a bachelor’s degree and a separate application to the College of Education. This degree program does not lead to AZ state certification.
Master of Education in Elementary Education with Certification Emphasis
If you have completed a bachelor's degree in a field other than education and wish to become certified to teach in the public schools, you may do so by completing the Master of Education in Elementary Education with Certification Emphasis. Program highlights include a convenient combination of web and traditional classes, weekend or evening course formats designed for working adults, and supervised field experiences. This 36-39 credit hours program includes 12 student teaching credit hours.
Master of Education in Secondary Education
Discover the value of inquiry, reflection, application, and evaluation of your practice through interaction with outstanding full and part-time teachers and mentors. Through courses in curriculum design and development, you will learn to apply practical strategies in your classroom. This program provides teaching methods and strategies that work to reach all of your students. Within this 36-hour program, you will take 12 credit hours of education core courses, 12 hours in a subject matter minor, 6 hours of professional education, and 6 hours of electives. This degree program does not lead to AZ state certification.
Master of Education Counseling, School Counseling
This degree is designed to prepare professional school counselors, through classroom instruction, fieldwork experience, practica and internships, to provide student services and organize service delivery systems in areas that include: human growth and development, social and cultural foundations, helping relationships, group work, career and lifestyle development, appraisal, research and program evaluation, and professional orientation. Additionally, curricular experiences are provided in foundations of school counseling, contextual dimensions: school counseling, knowledge and skills for the practice of school counseling, and clinical instruction. This program meets the coursework requirements for the Arizona Department of Education's K-12 Guidance counselor Endorsement and the national school certified counselor credential of the National Board for Certified Counselors. This degree is a 48-hour program accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP).
Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership
The Ed.D. in educational leadership combines coursework in the areas of foundations, leadership skills, professional specialization, and evaluation and research. The program emphasizes developing leadership skills and applying these skills in the contemporary educational environment.
